Hi all,

I am new to this forum, looks amazing. Hi to everybody.

I tried to look around for my printing problem but I cant solve it. It starts to drive me crazy. I am looking for help and advice.

I am trying to print a 4x6 with a black border.

If I define my page set up as:
1. 4x6 sheet borderless (not processed shoot), Zoom to fit activate or not, no margin but with a black stroke border = Print as presented in file 01, the black borders are cropped but most annoying one is shallower than the other (Big deal)
2. 4x6 sheet borderless, Zoom to fit activate, 0.2 margins , no black stroke border= Same unwanted print, the black borders are cropped and uneven.
3. 4x6 sheet, Zoom to fit activated, margins 0.2 and with a black stroke border = My white margins are not cropped and even, the inner black ones are also even but cropped. Picture 02
4. 4x6 sheet, Zoom to fit activated, margins 0.2 without black stroke border = The picture is as designed with good white margins. Picture 03

So finally while the printer seems to work properly, I cannot figure out how to have a print that would match the black borders I am designing under lightroom. I suspect that it may be more a printer issue/preferences, but I try so many things that I am lost and feel stupid now. I am not talking about the wasted ink ;-))))

Any experience with the Epson P600?

Any help?

All the best at all readers ;-)

Cheers
@J

Hi Giacomotto, I'm afraid I haven't used that printer, but welcome to the forum!

Thank for your reply. Really appreciated.
Would you mind if I ask you if you would have previously printed black borders on 4 x 6 templates without any problems, or if this is common to have them not even and tricks has to be used????

Cheers

I've never needed to attempt it, sorry! What are you actually seeing in Lightroom's preview, before you print?

In example 3, you said "the inner black ones are also even but cropped" - so does this mean they're the same size all the way round or not?

Victoria,

In Lightroom, it of course depends on the setting I defined as per aforementioned 1. 2. 3. or 4.. But the images used for illustration are exactly what I start form and what I get at the end following presented settings.

"the inner black ones are also even but cropped" - so does this mean they're the same size all the way round or not?- Yes ;)

Solution- So at end what I did is to
  • Start with a borderless template.
  • Do not use stroke but margins in mm with black background.
    • Margins Settings: Right 7mm Left 7mm Top 7mm Bottom 7mm
  • Print
  • Measure the real printed margins with a ruler
    • Results: Right 5mm Left 5mm Top 3mm Bottom 3mm -So quite off and uneven-
  • Go back to lightroom and adjust margins to compensate for the loss/imbalance
    • Margins Settings: Right 9mm Left 9mm Top 11mm Bottom 11mm
  • Print
  • Job done and happy with the results !!!!!!!
NOTE THAT STARTING WITH A NON BORDERLESS TEMPLATE, THE WHITE MARGINS HAS NOT TO BE CORRECTED AND IS PRINTED AT THE CORRECT SIZE - I dont understand why there is a difference. It puzzle me. I would love to have a rational response to that.

So, in my setup or version of the P600, you cannot us the stroke option in ligthroom with a borderless template in 4 x 6 ( may be on other format too? I did not try yet). The only option is to use margins with a specific background.

Hope that would be useful for others. I still dont understand why this printer display that type of "behaviour". Weird.

Cheers
