Welcome to the forum. The message refers to either source (Camera card) or destination (Make a second copy OR LR destination folder. If either of these destination folders are not available or the disk is full you will get this message. It does not necessarily mean that your Camera card is not readable. Check the disk volume associate with the two destination locations to see if 1) the disk is full 2) disconnected 3) does not have write permissions.

couple of questions --- LR version --- camera used -- raw or jpeg ?
I am using a 7D and I am shooting in raw the version is cc and I pay each month so it is updated all the time I have checked the update is the latest?

"cannot be read" almost always means that the destination cannot be written to. Make sure that you have permission to write to the folder (or disk) that you specified in the destination panel on the right side of the import dialogue.

try using usb cable -- try adding photos to windows/mac hard drive and then copy import into lr -- try another card with a few test photos -- try adding photos to the window picture folder only -- Sorry; I'm just throwing darts while blindfolded

Something i noticed, David is a new user (2 messages) but he could upload a screenshot. I thought this was only possible after more postings?
No signatures for the first few posts, and initial posts go through automatic moderation, but we allow images because we so often have newbies with problems that we need screenshots for. I can't remember when I changed that - probably ages ago.
