As the title says really.

I'm in the process of configuring a laptop, general purpose but it's most intensive application is likely to be lightroom.

Is there any advantage, for lightroom, in window 10 Pro over the home edition.

My feeling is there won't be any advantage in performance, but possibly some in the overall experience.

Any thoughts?

Personally, I'm happy with the Home edition. From what I read, LR should run the same on either Home or Pro.

Here's an article: Who needs Windows 10 Pro: 5 reasons to upgrade

The only things I might be interested in are Bitlocker and the Virtualization feature.

I have a pro vs and the group policies and slightly more control on the update process helped. We had very slow adsl internet here and everything would come to a grinding stop once the update started on its own. Now you can set it to start downloading when you click it.

The standard version of Windows 10 is actually Windows 10 Home edition, and it's aimed at home users. Windows 10 Pro is just like like an extension to Home in terms of size, features and price. Both can work across desktops , laptops, and tablets, and both of them come with Cortana- the virtual assistant, Edge Browser, Touch Compatibilty with options to switch to tablet layout (Continuum), Virtual Desktop and support for Windows Store apps. Here are the features that are only available in the Pro version: Domain Join, Group Policy Management, Bitlocker, Enterprise Mode Internet Explorer (EMIE), Assigned Access 8.1, Remote Desktop, Client Hyper-V, and Direct Access.

If you store personal data on your laptop or plug in external drives/USB drives (thumb drives) which also have personal data then Windows 10 Pro is a must IMHO.

BitLocker is a core feature of Windows 10 Pro and will encrypt not only your hard drive but also external drives and USB drives using BitLocker to go. Laptops and, for example, USB drives are small and easily stolen. Ask yourself if you would be comfortable knowing that there was unencrypted personal data on a stolen/lost laptop or USB drive.

I am a traveller (left home on my motorcycle in June 2014) and am more than happy paying the premium for Windows 10 Pro just for BitLocker. I encrypt my hard drive and my backup SSD's and have a method to manage the recovery keys if they were ever needed. BitLocker is just part of my defence :) Your scenario is probably different to mine but it is well worth considering how you would protect personal data if a device is lost or stolen.
