Hi folks, relatively new LR user here; well for 6 months or so.

My exporting of JPG's is very slow, and I have followed various examples of things to do on the internet but it hasn't made much difference. I appreciate that the laptop I have is never going to fly through processing, but didn't expect it to be so slow when exporting.

For example, one of the presets I use (and very slow) is using file settings of JPEG/sRGB/quality 82 and image sizing at 2048 long edge and resolution 72 with low screen sharpening. All metadata included and adding a basic text watermark.

I make sure that when I'm using LR that I have all other applications closed and any background processes that aren't needed, stopped. But often it takes a good few minutes for one JPG. If for example I use some other simple editor (I know it's not like with like) and do lots of edits and then 'save as' a JPG it's instant.

So, any suggestions clever folks out there?

How much free space do you have on your C: drive? How many edits on your images?

That is indeed slow. I average a little over a second per image. There's something very amiss in your setup.

I have 660GB free space on my 'C' drive, I store the RAW files on there and export the JPG's there. I just did a test and to export an imported RAW file (30MB) with no adjustments was 12 seconds, then 65 seconds for one with 17 adjustments - 12 of which were brush strokes which I understand are processing heavy....comparatively at least.

The laptop was given to me by my son about a month ago and I did a full clean and re-install so it doesn't have a great deal on it at the moment - before that I was using a 5 year old Core 2 Duo.

Check your anti virus settings. It is a good idea to exclude catalog/previews.
There maybe other folders you can exclude.

Make sure that there is no Lr batch activity such as building previews, sync or exports.

Well, I installed Neverware CloudReady so I could dual-boot my system, then installed Polarr in Chrome; the app not the extension. OK you don't get all the organisation and batch processing that you get with LR, but you do get all the editing functionality and I did a test with the same edits on LR and then Polarr and exported as a JPG. Almost 3 minutes on LR and about 5 seconds on Polarr.

I'm not a Pro so whilst it would be frustrating to lose all the functionality outside of editing that I get with LR, plus I would lose my Portfolio site, I am seriously thinking about making the move. I never use Photoshop so that's no issue with regards cancelling CC.
