As far back as I can remember I've not been able to use the Finder QuickLook feature to see my DNGs. All I'll see when I selected a DNG was the standard Adobe DNG icon. I tried a few different ways to fix this but there's nothing that worked. I looked all over the Adobe and Apple support forums with no luck at all.

This morning I was contacted by David Blake from Ardfry Imaging that they have an OS X DNG suite that makes it possible to see DNG thumbnails in the Finder and with QuickLook. I checked out their site to make sure this was legit and they sure did. I tried it out and, for the first time, I can see DNGs in the Finder.

It's still in beta but it works for me. The price, for now, is $9.99. Available at: http://www.ardfry.com/dng-suite-mac/

For Windows users they have other DNG tools too from: http://www.ardfry.com/

I have no connection with this company except that I'm a happy user as of this morning.

This was one of the annoyances that has keep me from switching to DNG. The other, apparently a more difficult challenge, is that there's no way to convert a RAW file to DNG that retains its history. When I convert any RAW file it's converted to a DNG in it's most recent state. If anyone can offer any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Welcome to the forum. OSX does not have a CODEC for Lossy DNGs, Linear DNGs and the latest version of DNG 1.4. All of my DNGs were generated by my Pentax camera in the camera and OSX has no problem with these In fact if I convert a RAW NEF file to DNG using LR, it views in Finder just fine.

So, Why do you think you need to convert to DNG? And when you do are you converting to Lossy DNG? There is no reason to convert perfectly good RAW files to another RAW format.
